Morgan

Trainee Project Manager

I joined Phixos straight after my A Levels as an apprentice in 2015. I spent my first year learning about all the different divisions of the business, so I could get a full understanding of Phixos and their operations. For the first 4 years of my apprenticeship, I developed my engineering skills and experience, plus day release to study for my Foundation degree. After completing my apprenticeship, Phixos supported me and allowed me to continue day release for 1.5 years to get my BSc in Electronics.

Morgan

My role has allowed me to develop growing responsibilities, starting as a junior member of the Software Verification team, then progressing to senior and training new graduates. Since then, I learned a brand new skillset, now having progressed to a team lead role in Firmware Verification. Phixos continue to support me with internal mentorship and external training courses. I look forward to completing my next milestone with them, currently on track to progress to Project Manager within my team by Q1 2024.

Working for Phixos has been incredibly rewarding for me, from teaching me the basics to now being able to train and support new graduates. My favourite part of working here is the opportunity for skill development and progression they provide, whilst also being immersed in a fun team environment.

Gary

Principal Engineer

I have worked at Phixos for over 15 years. I hold the role of Principal Engineer on the team, I am performing the role of Software Architect and technical lead on an innovative aerospace project currently. My responsibilities include both technical and project certification across several industries, alongside being a champion to the training and mentoring of newer engineers in the team.

I already had previous professional experience within other engineering industries before being welcomed to the Phixos team. Phixos has allowed me to develop a wealth of existing and new skills, such as harnessing different software development methodologies and coding languages such as UML, Ada Spark and C++. I have been equipped with the tools needed to manage whole lifecycle software development, and have branched out into new industries such as Rail and Aerospace.

I am pleased to have worked on both technical and certification projects, and expand my industry experience and scope. I love the problem-solving aspect of my role, and the new skills I’ve developed over time. I especially value seeing how my mentoring has supported less experienced engineers through their own journey, and how they have taught me new things as well!

Many memories have been made over my 15+ years with Phixos. We have a good team, who I have enjoyed working with and socialising with outside of work, including some previous staff who are still in touch. It’s a great environment for working and personal growth.

Jamie

Graduate Engineer

I began my Phixos journey as an engineering graduate straight out of university. I have been working at Phixos for 9 months now and have felt that I was immediately supported from the start, getting up to speed with the software required. The friendly and experienced team has been a regular support, meaning that I can now work to produce tests to a high standard and efficiency, with more independence.

In my time here, I have become increasingly confident in my projects software language and have built on various key engineering skills. These include: providing high quality work, being conscious of time and budget, and communicating well with the team. These judgements have and will continue to improve with my experience at Phixos.

The company’s capability to work on a wide range of interesting products in various software languages, and experiences is a great opportunity for the team to gain exposure to how projects should be developed and managed. My experience and understanding of high complexity situations and judgement-making has been developed throughout by progression.

Sam

Engineer

My Phixos journey began as a year long placement during a sandwich year in my degree. The first project I worked on was a safety-critical software development project for an esteemed aerospace company, which was a great branch out into the industry.

I went back to finish my degree and was fortunately able to return to Phixos in 2019, continuing software development, then moving across into lifecycle and high level performance testing at a SIL 3 standard.

As a university placement student, senior colleagues provided internal training and tailored project specific programmes to provide me with a smooth transition onto project-based tasks. Being able to engage in multiple styles of projects has in turn given me a wide range of engineering skills, in both development and verification and across different programming languages and models.

Phixos has directly provided me with the tools needed to flourish in my engineering career, offering a supportive and nurturing environment for me to grow. The diversity of projects provides both a stimulating and rewarding place to work.

Stephen

Principal Engineer

I have been working at Phixos for over 9 years now. I initially came across Phixos, working as a subcontractor. I enjoyed the work I completed for them and the wider working environment, so I made the decision to apply on a permanent basis.

As a Principal Engineer, my role is to steer the technical direction of projects to best suit the customer’s requirements. Furthermore, I act as a guide for less experienced engineers, helping to ground and train them in their roles.

The variety of customers and technical work is always interesting and challenging. We are a collaborative team, so your opinion is listened to and acted on, allowing flexibility to adapt to changing customer and business needs. The atmosphere is friendly with a positive attitude, and is supportive when plans change or assistance is needed.

Phixos has allowed me to develop my knowledge and skill set, giving me awareness of my wider capabilities and gaining confidence in less familiar tasks. I appreciate the enjoyable atmosphere and supportive work environment that Phixos creates.
